Competitive Eating

Have you ever broken a hot dog in half, shoved the bun in a bucket of hot water and stuffed it into your mouth? If so, you would probably be a competitive eater! The most famous competitive eating competition is the July 4th Nathans hotdog eating contest…but there are competitive eating contests for volume like the ice cream contest in Delaware and spiciness like the jalapeño contest in Laredo. How does one even eat 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes?? Like where does that food even go! In this episode we explore the science and the characters behind the disgusting but remarkable sport of competitive eating.

Can we ask you for a favor? Please rate and subscribe on itunes, the 5 star kind of course! It really helps :) We will forever be in your debt, thank you.

About the Podcast

Dude! Nature
The longest running (and most popular) science podcast for those of us who got kicked out of class for throwing pencils at the ceiling. Adam and Noah are skeptical twin brothers whose separate journeys through professional science and engineering led them to a ridiculous notion: that reality is strange and barely understood. Unfortunately they just didn't have the attention span to listen to any science podcasts without wanting to gouge their eyes out with a spoon.

If you've ever wanted to listen to more podcasts about cosmic quandaries, evolutionary mysteries, and giant creatures living underneath the ice of rogue planets but just can't stand academic rambling delivered with a nasally voice, then this podcast is for you.
